Petrorhagia illyrica
Height & Spread 30cm x 30cm
This pretty plant comes from the Balkans and Southern European states and thrives in full sun. Short grass like foliage is topped with masses of baby pink star like flowers with five petals. The flowers appear from early summer to autumn. When the first flush of flowers have finished cut the plant back to approximately 10cm and it will flower again.
Best in moist but free draining soil. Over the course of a couple of years the plant will develop into to a soft pillow like mound. It's slightly fluffy appearance and diminutive height make it ideal for sunny border edges, containers and rockeries. It can also be used to soften the edges of paving. Loved by bees and other beneficial pollinators, this easy going and reliable little plant should be seen more often.
