                                        Paeonia lactiflora 'Primevère'
Height x Spread: 75cm x 60cm
This showy herbaceous perennial has glossy, dark green, divided leaves and large flowers consisting of creamy white outer petals and yellow centres that fade to cream. It forms a clump of up to 100cm across and dislikes disturbance.
As with all Paeonia care should be taken when planting to ensure the toes (emerging shoots) are only millimetres below the surface of the soil. Planting deeply will only ensure that your plant never flowers.
The flowers are large and heavy and may well require individual staking to hold them up. The faded flowers should be removed at the base and foliage cut back in autumn. To help prevent damage to the flowers it is always best to plant Paeonia in sunny, sheltered spots where they are protected from the wind. Given the right conditions they are hardy to -15 degrees C. These plants will tolerant almost any pH but do require rich fertile soil with lots of organic matter.
A spectacular addition to cottage and informal gardens as well as beds and borders.
Harmful if eaten.
