Dodecatheon meadia 'Goliath'
Height x Spread: 70cm x 30cm
'Goliath' is a most striking cultivar of the north american wildflower 'Shooting Star'. Tall and elegant, it carries rosy pink flowers with petals that flare out like flames from a rocket from its pointed yellow centre, on sturdy stems over a ruffle of basal green foliage.
Flowering from late spring into early summer, the plant will die back completely in midsummer before reappearing the following spring, so be careful to mark where it is. It prefers a humus rich neutral to acid soil in part shade. Great for a contemporary woodland, why not plant it close to a stream or pond to capture its reflection in the water. Perfect for cutting too.
