Silphium mohrii
Height x Spread: 150cm x 60cm
Tall and architectural, Silphium mohrii is becoming popular among garden designers for its profusion of pale yellow single flowers that dance in the breeze on fuzzy branching stems.
Flowering from late summer into autumn, this is a very useful and versatile perennial as it bridges the difficult 'August' gap when earlier flowering perennials have finished and autumn ones have yet to start. Its naturalistic good looks also suit different styles of planting from 'prairie' to informal cottage and natural landscape. Easy to grow and low maintenance, it needs a site in full sun in free draining soil to thrive but can cope with light shade too. Bees love its nectar rich flowers.
