Paeonia 'Lemon Chiffon'
Height x Spread: 100cm x 100cm
A tuberous, upright, herbaceous perennial with dark green, dissected foliage and semi-double fragrant, yellow flowers with golden stamens and pink tipped carpels.
'Lemon Chiffon' is a highly prized Paeonia that won the American Paeony Society plant of the year in 2000. The flowers start as single blooms with ruffled petals but as the plant matures the blooms can develop to become fully double.
As with most Paeonia, care should be taken when planting to ensure they are not planted deeply, In fact the tuberous roots should be no deeper that 2cm below the surface. Failure to observe this will ensure your plant never flowers.
The soil can be of any pH but ideally humus rich and fertile, moist but well drained. Happiest in full sun to partial shade and a sheltered site away from strong winds. The blooms are heavy once opened, so you may wish to stake each budded stem. They are hardy in the UK to -15 degrees C as long as they are not exposed to excessive winter wet.
Butterflies and bees love the flowers. These plants are very long lived and can go on for 50 years or more.
Ideal for inclusion in cutting gardens, city, courtyard, cottage, wildlife, informal and Japanese style plantings
Paeonia can be extremely harmful if consumed.
