Rheum palmatum var. tanguticum
Height x Spread: 200cm x 200m
A superb foliage plant with large, jagged, deeply cut leaves that open up purple-red before fading to green. Stunning white, pink or red flower spikes standing up to 6 feet tall, appear in early summer.
Native to China, Rheum palmatum is a wonderfully architectural plant for moisture retentive soils, plant alongside watercourses, ponds and in bog gardens. Dappled shade is preferred but with enough moisture this plant will tolerate sunnier sites. Mulch the crown during the winter.
All parts of this plant are toxic.
