Salvia × sylvestris 'Mainacht'
Height x Spread: 45cm x 30cm
'Mainacht' produces an abundance of densely crowded, purple flower spikes on a compact plant with tidy, aromatic sage-scented, dark green foliage. The dense spikes also provide great vertical structure at low level, acting as a foil for other flowering forms.
This iconic, cottage garden plant is much valued for the richness and intensity of colour it brings to the front of a border throughout the summer. Bees and other pollinators love it. Very easy to grow, snip off faded flower stems just above a pair of outward growing unflowered stems to kick start them into blooming. It thrives in any light, reasonably rich, free draining soil with some moisture, in full sun.
