Height & Spread: 50cm x 50cm
A compact form of this rhizomatous perennial from Japan. Masses of small, wine-red, oval flowerheads stand above mounds of blue-green foliage. Its small stature makes this cultivar the ideal choice for smaller gardens; it would equally look wonderful planted en masse or within prairie style schemes. Pollinators love this perennial.
It is fully hardy in the UK and very easy to maintain. Any pH is fine, it just needs moist but well drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Don’t allow it to become water stressed in the summer.
Divide established clumps in spring. No pruning is required. Great as cut flower; they can also be dried effectively. Ideal for use in city, courtyard, cottage, informal, prairie planting as well as beds and borders.
