Veronica 'Shirley Blue'

There is something about the intense blue of the individual flowers that form the delicate spires of Veronica 'Shirley Blue' that really draws the eye.  Its hue works well in 'cool' planting schemes but also sings against other jewel colours such as golds, oranges and deep pinks.    

Easy to grow, reliable and long flowering from the end of May through to July, it is one of those plants that every gardener should know about.  Exploit its natural tendency to creep gently creating a carpet of soft-grey foliage as ruthless but attractive weed suppressing ground cover, perhaps along the edge of a path.  Alternatively showcase it at the front of a bed its verticality highlighted by soft mounding foliage.  Unfussy, it thrives in a fairly fertile, moist but free draining soil in either full sun or part shade.
