Symphyotrichum 'Jessica Jones'
Height x Spread: 100cm x 60cm
In a world of strong autumnal hues 'Jessica Jones' stands out for her large but very pretty and rather delicate flowers. From deep rosy-pink buds open single lavender pink flowers with fine petals and a golden yellow centre. As each flower is pollinated, its centre turns red telling pollinators to move on and the flower fades to a soft frilly pink.
A recent mildew resistant introduction, it is both easy to grow and versatile, suiting a variety of different planting styles from cottage and prairie to more formal herbaceous borders. However you use it, its subtle colouring will be enhanced by the soft autumnal light but do not be tempted to cut it back until the spring as it looks lovely on an early winter morning edged in frost. It needs a sunny spot and fertile, reasonable soil to thrive.
