Caryopteris × clandonensis Hint of Gold ('Lisaura'PBR)
Height x Spread: 90cm x 90cm.
A deciduous shrub with green and yellow variegated, aromatic leaves and clusters of bright blue flowers in late Summer and Autumn.
A Mediterranean style plant, Caryopteris likes any light free draining soils and is drought tolerant once established. It’s easy to care for, just needing a sheltered sunny site that is protected from cold easterly winds. Its’ relatively small stature makes it ideal for courtyard gardens. and it does well when planted in front of a sunny wall, where it can take advantage of the reflected heat and protection from the worst cold. South and west facing positions are best. Cut back to a strong framework in Spring and add a layer of good organic mulch to improve the soil, at the same time.
Note, when mulching around plants do not stack the mulch against the stems of plants but leave a small gap to avoid rot.
This plant is not of interest to deer or rabbits but is a major draw for bees and butterflies making it most useful in sunny wildlife gardens. Fantastic planted with salvias, grasses and all late season, sun-loving perennials.
