Clematis 'Multi Blue' (EL)
Height x Spread: 400cm x 100cm
This beautiful double flowered, Group 2 Clematis bares blue blooms early in the summer. If cut back by half immediately after flowering a second flush of smaller and sometimes single flowers can be produced from August to September. As with all Clematis, they are suited to neutral to alkaline soils. If you have acidic soil some form of calcium such as garden lime, bone-meal or fish, blood and bone would need to be added to the backfill when planting. As this climber grows tie in new stems gently, using soft twine, to a supporting structure.
Best when planted in semi-shade or sun, however Clematis need to have their roots in the shade to keep them cool. Ideally, they require rich, deep and suitably moist but well drained soil to perform at their best. Blue flowered Clematis naturally fade out as the flowers age so to keep the flower colour looking fresh, it is best to place them away from direct sunlight particularly in the middle of the day. This is why sheltered west or north facing sites are so good for this particular Clematis.
This Clematis can be pruned to the 2nd set of buds on each stem in Feb - March.
