Papaver cambricum
Height x Spread: 30cm x 30cm
Much loved for its carefree display of bright yellow to golden orange, saucer-shaped flowers over pale green divided foliage, this must be on everyone's list of favourite wildflowers.
Naturally found growing in areas that enjoy cool, moist summers, this reliable perennial will happily self-seed itself through your border, but rogue seedlings are easy to pull out. Undemanding and easy to grow, it prefers partial or light shade, and a damp but free-draining soil that is not alkaline, where it will keep flowering from late spring into autumn. Very versatile, it is perfect choice for a cottage, wildflower or wildlife garden but also looks beautiful in dappled light drifting through a woodland garden.
