Helleborus × ballardiae 'Candy Love'
Height x Spread: 40cm x 40cm
For those of us drawn to the pure elegance of single hellebores, 'Candy Love' is one for the 'Wish List'. From January into early April, its large creamy white nodding flowers gently open in succession from pink buds. As they mature, the petals take on shades of dusky plum suffused with pale lime green, each plant proudly displaying a range of soft hues dependent upon the age of individual blooms.
A hybrid of H. niger the 'Christmas rose' and H. lividus the blue-grey hellebore, its foliage leans towards the latter with chalky red stems and soft bluish-grey shallow toothed leaves with red midrib, all adding to this hellebore's harmonious palate. Wonderful in a cottage garden or woodland setting, it can cope with slightly heavier soil than most hellebores as long as it is non-acidic and in a partially shaded situation. Perfect too for a late winter or early spring bouquet. Spring pollinators love it.
Irritant to the skin, harmful if eaten.
