Iris lactea
Height x Spread: 30cm x 25cm
An elegant Iris comprising delicate standards that can range in colour from palest purplish-blue to milky white but with falls that are always white with a fine tracing of violet or blue. These are held on upright stems above clumps of pale grey-green strappy foliage.
However, its daintiness belies its toughness. Hardy, they can cope with a range of soils including clay and coastal ones containing salt as long as they remain moist, but perform best in sun or part shade. A good choice for a bog garden, they would also look very pretty planted in large drifts within a water meadow adding colour and grace through early summer.
