Dark reddish-pink bottlebrush flower spikes are held on wiry stems above mounds of serrated oval greyish-green leaves. Sanguisorba menziesii produces a prolific but delicate flower display during summer after which the seedheads stay upright and look beautiful silhouetted by frost in the winter. Native to Alaska, it is very easy to grow and very tough.

A great combination of form and texture, it is ideal for the front of a border but its naturalistic form also looks wonderful planted in drifts. An excellent cut flower, it is most attractive to bees and butterflies. It will clump up fairly quickly but you can divide large clumps in spring. It thrives in a rich, free draining soil that retains some moisture, in full sun or part shade.
