Hakonechloa macra
Height x Spread: 40cm x 50cm
Quietly elegant in form, this Japanese forest grass creates fountain-like clumps of tactile, narrow green foliage with small lime green flowers in late summer.
A fantastic plant for providing movement, sound and structure in the garden over several seasons, including winter when its faded foliage stays upright and rustles in the breeze. Use it as a statement plant on its own in a planter, or combine it with hostas and ferns for an interesting textural display. Cut faded foliage down to the ground in late winter. It prefers a cool, slightly damp soil in dappled shade, but can tolerate more sun.
