This Chinese, herbaceous perennial forms a statuesque display of heavily branched flower heads above a basal rosette of lobed or divided leaves. From July to September large sprays of small yellow flowers are produced in clusters that later become attractive seed heads.
Best in any moist but well drained soil in sun or partial shade, this plant is a magnet for butterflies when the flowers open.
Ideal for the back of the border this plant partners well with Agastache, tall Salvia, Leucanthemum, Echinops, Verbascum and Delphiniums as well as tall grasses like Calamagrostis.
Ideal for informal, cottage and wildlife gardens as well as beds and borders.
Cut back old stems in spring.
