A good late season perennial for the middle of the border, 'Whirlwind' produces masses of semi-double flowers with a golden yellow eye, held on wiry stems. The dark green foliage makes good basal clumps.
Fairly unfussy and easy to grow, to get the best results these plants prefer a good soil and sunny position, although they will tolerate part shade. They look amazing combined with purple foliage plants such as Actaea simplex 'Brunette' and late season yellow Rudbeckia.
