Commonly known as Blanket Flower, Gaillardia × grandiflora 'Dazzler' displays the traditional bold colour of these North American prairie plants — vivid orange-red petals tipped with yellow around a rich mahogany centre. It flowers prolifically through summer and into autumn; regular deadheading will encourage further blooms.
Best positioned in the middle of a sunny border in fertile, moisture-retentive soil. Although often treated as a half-hardy annual, it is reliably hardy throughout the UK, tolerating temperatures down to -15°C (H5). It also performs well in containers and gravel gardens.
