Helleborus argutifolius
Height x Spread: 60cm x 60cm
Commonly known as the holly-leaved Hellebore due to the spiny toothed deep green foliage, which is similar to holly. Nodding, cup-shaped flowers appear green/yellow during late winter and early spring. Once the flowers have finished and been allowed to go to seed, the old flowering stems can be cut back hard.
Sun or light shade and any reasonably good, free-draining soil, in a sheltered area are the perfect conditions for this plant. A fantastic hellebore for under planting deciduous trees and shrubs, where it will add winter interest. It can also be used as a cut flower although we strongly advise wearing gloves when handling this plant.
Irritant to the skin and is harmful if ingested.
