Ipheion 'Jessie'

A charming ankle-high gem, 'Jessie' is sought after for its starry sky blue flowers each picked out with a dark yellow centre. Flowering in succession through spring, the blooms dance in the breeze on upright stems above dark green strappy leaves. Picking the blooms helps to prolong flowering.
When flowering has finished the foliage dies away quickly only for the plant to return again the following spring. So be careful not to dig up the plant by accident. Best in fairly fertile soil with good drainage and full sun, 'Jessie' is a strong candidate for inclusion in any rock or gravel garden where it can be showcased but it is also so useful for underplanting shrubs especially roses, its spring foliage hiding their bare legs.
