Stachys byzantina 'Silver Carpet'
Height x Spread: 20cm x 90cm
'Silver Carpet' forms an ankle-high, spreading sea of furry, silver grey leaves with few flowers. More intensely silver-white than Stachys byzantina, this very tactile foliage plant forms enthusiastic groundcover.
Designers frequently use it for planting in large drifts in hot, dry, free draining sites, such as slopes and banks, where it will bulk up quickly. Being small in scale, it also looks very pretty edging a path or planted up in a container with contrasting neighbours. Dying back slightly in winter, it comes back strongly in spring. This easy to grow plant performs best in free draining, fairly fertile soil, that is not overly wet in winter.
