Hylotelephium × mottramianum 'Herbstfreude'
Height x Spread: 60cm x 60cm
Large, flattish clusters of pale pinkish-green buds, open to small, pale pink flowers that bronze to dark pink/red as they mature. These are held on sturdy, grey-green stems with very gently toothed leaves. 'Herbstfreude' is an iconic cottage garden plant, whose popularity is well-deserved for its showy, long lasting and ever evolving display.
The nectar rich flowers produced from August to October are most attractive to bees and really deliver late season colour. Even after they have faded to dark brown, the seedheads continue to enhance the garden into winter, where they look beautiful highlighted by frost. If your soil is too rich, just plant it in containers. Easy to grow and drought tolerant, to get the best results it needs well drained soil, that is moderately fertile in a spot enjoying full sun.
