Alcea rosea 'Nigra'
Height x Spread: 150cm x 60cm
Often described as having black flowers, on closer inspection they are in fact a very deep, intense purple. Very large in size, they appear on tall, elegant spikes throughout the summer, adding dramatic impact to the garden.
The leaf base of this cottage garden staple is quite large, so allow them sufficient room in the mixed border to develop. Easy to grow, just cut them back to 15cm above ground level in autumn. They much prefer a sunny position in a good soil.
