Dianthus cruentus
Height x Spread: 45cm x 30cm
Commonly known as 'feld pink', this perennial produces clusters of flat blood-pink single flowers held like drumsticks above the blue-green grass-like foliage. Popularised by Cleve West's RHS Chelsea 2011 show garden, this tough, evergreen perennial is easy to grow.
It looks great as a spot plant in a rock or gravel garden, where its delicate silhouette can be best appreciated. A veritable bee and butterfly magnet, just trim in spring to keep a neat shape and again after flowering to encourage basal growth. Dianthus cruentus will perform best in a fertile, alkaline to neutral well-drained soil.
