Disporum sessile 'Robustum Variegatum'
Height x Spread: 30cm x 20cm
Commonly known as variegated fairy bells, this perennial bears dainty bell-like greenish-white flowers that dangle beneath upright stems and white-striped waxy green foliage. These are followed in the autumn by blue-black berries.
Native to wooded hillsides in Japan, this plant will slowly creep to form colonies. Naturally suited to woodland planting schemes, its foliage will also help illuminate and add texture to shady spots within a garden border. An unusual plant, it deserves to be better known.
This Disporum prefers a fertile, moist but well-drained soil in part to full shade.
